What are PDO Threads?
Known world-wide as the "The Miracle Lift" or "Lunch Time Face Lift", PDO threads are FDA-Cleared absorb-able surgical sutures. PDO threading is a treatment involving the use of polydioxanone (PDO) surgical sutures that are inserted under the skin providing a smoothing and lifting effect in the face, neck, forehead and a number of other areas in the body.
How Does it Work?
PDO threads are inserted under the skin providing the patient with immediate lift or volume. The threads dissolve naturally over the course of several months synthesizing new collagen and elastin production in the treated area. The result is a nonsurgical lift with little to no downtime, generally lasting 12-18 months. Most procedures take about 45 minutes.
PDO threads are fully absorbed over time. PDO threads promote the body's "selective inflammatory response" which is one method to achieve controlled healing. Many aethetic procedures such as a fractional lasers, chemical peels, and microneedling allow the body to under go controlled healing while repairing itself naturally creating new collagen and elastin.
Mesh or Lift
There are two types of PDO thread techniques used to achieve different results.
Mesh Work - PDO threads are inserted in a mesh work hashtag pattern (vertically and horizontally) under the skin. This mesh work pattern serves as a foundation for new collagen and elastin production. This technique tightens the skin naturally overtime. Smoothing the area and providing noticeable volume where volume has been lost due to aging.
Lifting - Barbed PDO threads are inserted under the skin to provide lift to the surrounding tissue, giving immediate results. Bard threads have the ability to immediately re-position excess skin and facial fat pads that begin to descend as a patient ages. This natural re-positioning reduces the appearance of age markers and deep expression lines (i.e. nasolabial folds, marionettes, jowls) while restoring a youthful V-shape to the face. Barb PDO threads also promote the body's production of collagen and elastin which effectively maintains the lift, once the threads have dissolved, results generally last 12-18 months or longer.
